A system I learned from some old depression-era muskrat trappers. They took short wire and attached it to 6-to-8-foot cedar stakes. The wire was attached right to the stake and set in the rat runs. When the tide came up the short wire allowed for a quick dispatch.
This type of setup was used in lakes and streams on a stake in deep water runs on the bottom.
This old school system still works today and with the advancements in locks cable and wire swivel, it is even better. The loop is set for rats (3.5) for those deer sets. For mink just adjust the loop down to your mink loop. Can be used with stakes, on bricks or plates, or add an extension.
Each snare has a support collar to ensure fast and stable support. We use a modified Minnie lock to achieve a fast smooth fire, (Eric Space showed me this modification) Each snare is made with a 1/16, 7x7, or 1x19 cable and uses our double load (not overload) to ensure a stable fast downward or swing-out fire in the water (current or still) or on the land/ log.
A swivel either wire swivel for our downer model or an in-line barrel swivel for our tie-off systems.
